Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has made it clear that maintenance of law and order is the top priority of the government and no lawlessness would be tolerated at any cost.
The Chief Minister said this while replying to questions of newsmen during his visit to a polling station here on Wednesday.
The Chief Minister accompanied by Senator Mohammed Ali Durrani visited this area to review the arrangements of polling for bye-election to NA-229 Tharparkar-l where Finance Minister and Prime Minister - designate Shaukat Aziz is contesting the election.
Dr Arbab said that being chief executive of the province, it was his responsibility to ensure the rule of law in the province.
Responding to a question about stepping up security arrangements in Tharparkar, the Sindh CM said it was because of some untoward incidents, which were reported yesterday.
He said the people of Tharparkar have already shown their support to the Prime Minister - designate, even a large number of PPPP leaders and workers of the area have joined PML while expressing confidence in the party leadership.
It was the reason that PPPP leadership found no local person to appoint as polling agent and brought its MNAs and MPAs to act as polling agent of its candidate, the Chief Minister said.
Responding to a question about the participation of government employees in politics, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim replied that no government employee would be allowed to take part in politics.
He said the government was fully committed to ensure the holding of bye-election to NA-229 Tharparkar-I in a free, fair, impartial and transparent manner. A large number of media persons are already here to personally observe the polling process in the constituency, he added.
