At least 11 persons, including four women of different ages, committed suicide in different parts of Punjab during last 24 hours due to financial constraints, domestic feuds and tension. Besides, four persons, including a girl, burnt themselves alive.
According to police, one Muhammad Bakhsh (45) of Jalalpur Pirwala committed suicide by hanging himself with a tree. He was living in Mohallah Ram Kali with his fourth wife, Haleema Bibi (22), daughter of Faiz Bakhsh. He married her six months ago. The cause of suicide could not be ascertained.
In another case, a 70-year-old unidentified man committed suicide in village No 5/WB (Vehari) by hanging himself with a tree. His body was preserved in the morgue because his relatives could not be traced.
In yet another case, one Muhammad Ramzan Daultana jumped before the train when his wife refused to go with him. His wife was living with her parents for the last few months in Khanewal.
One Shamim Bibi (35) took poisonous tablets in Manawan after quarrelling with his husband. She was mother of two minor children.
A 30-year-old Amer burnt himself to death in the presence of his father-in-law when his wife refused to live with him because he was already married, posing himself a bachelor.
When his wife Rizwana of Lahore came to know about his previous marriage, she returned to parents' home where she gave birth to a daughter.
Shabbir Ahmed (22) took poison when he could not pay the bill of a private maternity home where his wife gave birth to a son. He was jobless and his relatives and friends refused to help him financially in Dhabolay (Aggoki).
A youth, Riaz Ahmed committed suicide in Thatta Syedan (Faisalabad) because he was jobless.
One Murtaza, son of a landlord Abdul Wahid, burnt himself to death when his father reprimanded him for having contacts with youths of bad reputation in Kamalia, some 90 miles north-east of here.
One Taqi Shah (16) of Chak No 10/2-L jumped into lower Bari Doaab canal when his mother reprimanded him for not doing work. He was married only month ago in Harappa (Sahiwal), some 80 miles east of here.
One Abdul Ghaffar (18) committed suicide in Saranwali (Narowal), Khalida Bibi of Kathiala, Azra, a housewife of Chak No 18/JD (Okara), also committed suicide because her husband Anwar has threatened to divorce her.
