President General Pervez Musharraf and prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain have greeted Afghan President Hamid Karzai on the country's Independence Day, falling on Thursday (August 19), and hoped that ties between the two countries would continue to grow for the mutual advantage of their two people.
In a separate message, President Musharraf said: "It gives me great pleasure to convey to your excellency my warmest felicitations on the auspicious occasion of the Independence Day of Afghanistan."
President Musharraf said Pakistan and Afghanistan had good brotherly relations rooted deep in history and common faith.
"I have no doubt that these relations would continue to grow to the mutual advantage of our two peoples," he added.
The President noted with satisfaction that the reconstruction work was going apace and the people of Afghanistan would soon participate in presidential elections.
"Please accept, excellency, my best wishes for your personal health and happiness as well as for the continued progress and prosperity of the brotherly people of Afghanistan," he added.
Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, in his message, said Pakistan attached high priority to its relations with Afghanistan, and hoped co-operation between the two countries would continue to grow in the days ahead.
"On behalf of the government and the people of Pakistan and on my own behalf, I wish to convey to your excellency my sincere greetings on the independence day of Afghanistan," the Prime Minister said.
"We have imperishable ties of common history and geography, culture and traditions," he added, and expressed the confidence that the "friendship and co-operation between our two countries would continue to grow from strength to strength.
"We wish our brethren in Afghanistan every success in the noble task of reconstruction. I pray for your excellency's health and happiness as well as for the peace and well being of the brotherly people of Afghanistan," he added.
