PTCL's daily-wage worker confirmation as permanent employees will cost Rs 199 million in annual recurring expenditure, which is less than 0.2 percent of the annual PTCL expenditure.
PTCL President and CEO Junaid Iqbal Khan has announced that 4,400 out of 7,193 daily-wage workers are made permanent under the corporate rules, and these confirmed employees will be provided incentives, including leave, house rent, medical allowance, gratuity and transportation.
Addressing a press conference, he said this act of PTCL will enhance employees motivation and operational efficiency.
He said that PTCL has planned to implement this decision sequence-wise in two phases, adding that first phase will take three to four months to make these employees permanent. This issue has been under consideration for the last 10 years.
He said after the detailed study and financial implementation the PTCL board has approved it, and the remaining staff will be made permanent in continuation process of second phase.
The PTCL chief said these positions are made permanent on merit and experience basis, and these employees will be considered as fresh employees in the range between Grade-1 and Grade-9.
He said two million lines will be extended from October 2004, while the PTCL has four million lines recently, adding that free local calls proposal is under consideration by the PTCL provided the line rent would be increased from Rs 1,500 to Rs 1,800.
