US stocks rose on Wednesday as investors bought beaten-down shares and oil prices eased from the record high hit earlier in the session.
Stock traders are keeping a keen eye on crude oil prices, which breached $47 a barrel to move the record higher before slipping slightly on Wednesday. High oil prices have given a boost to oil production stocks like Exxon Mobil Corp and ConocoPhillips but weighed on other sectors.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 24.06 points, or 0.24 percent, at 9,996.89. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 Index was 5.42 points higher, or 0.5 percent, at 1,087.13. The technology-laced Nasdaq Composite Index added 16.92 points, or 0.94 percent, at 1,812.17.
