Raids carried out on seminaries involved in terrorism, ban on appointment of teachers lifted: Zobaida
Federal Minister for Education Zobaida Jalal has aid that the Madrassahs were making a remarkable contribution to the development of the country, however, the raid on few Madrassahs were 'focused' at removing the miscreants from there.
"These raids are the part of the security measures and are conducted to avert any untoward situation," she said while talking to media men at the launching ceremony of website and Communication Cell of Non-Formal Education Programme at Education For All (EFA) Wing here Thursday.
The minister said Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ministry of Education was working for mainstreaming of the madrassahs and has no concern with these raids.
To a question, the minister said the Ministry of Education would hopefully work out some policy to regularise teachers, citing 300 teachers were regularised in the last year.
The minister said she would take a presentation from Inter Board Committee of Chairmen in September and would consider establishing its centers at provincial as well as district levels to facilitate students including over-seas.
About the achievement of Millennium Development Goals, the minister said government was making all out integrated and comprehensive efforts to achieve these goals adding, "we are very close in achieving these targets."
About dissatisfaction expressed in UN Report over Pakistan for achieving those objectives the minister said, statistics used in that report were of 1990s and now the situation had changed for better.
Earlier, the minister said that Website of Non-formal Education have had the complete data of country - wide literacy centers which would help monitor the performance of the system and keep check on it.
"It would also help to achieve the literacy goal in the country and every body would have an access to monitor this education programme," she added.
The minister said the honorary salaries of, non-formal education programme teachers have been increased from Rs 1000 to Rs 2000 which would be further increased to Rs 3000 in next year besides Utility Allowance of Rs 500.
"We want more and more social and involvement in the education programme" she said and announced to establish Non- Formal Middle Education Center soon.
The minister said 'All Pakistan Non-Formal Teachers Training Workshop' would be held in Karachi likely in September.
