Stable trend was witnessed in the inter-bank market on Friday as the rupee maintained its gain for buying and selling at Rs 58.76 and Rs 58.78, dealers said.
The rates did not fluctuate sharply or did not come under pressure as the State Bank was selling dollars to meet the market requirements, they added.
Market players said they were expecting that the rupee might not be able to sustain its current level due to 35 million dollars requirements for oil payment, but comfortable supplies might support it.
The dollar drifted lower slightly versus major currencies on lingering worries about the US economy after the soaring oil prices the world over.
KERB MARKET RATES: The rupee managed to hold on to its overnight levels versus dollar for buying and selling at Rs 59.08 and Rs 59.15 amid modest trading, dealers said.
The rupee continued its weakness versus euro and shed 10 paisa for buying and selling at Rs 72.80 and Rs 73.10, they added.
