Election Commission notifies Shaukat's election as MNA

The Election Commission of Pakistan has officially declared Shaukat
Aziz as successful candidate from both the constituencies ie NA-59 Attock-III and NA-229 Tharparkar-I.
The official notification in this regard was issued by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Irshad Hassan Khan (Retd) at a press conference here on Friday.
While giving details for bye-elections in NA-59 (Attock) and NA-229 (Tharparkar) the CEC said that 220 and 253 polling stations were set up in those constituencies respectively. According to official results of NA-59 announced of by the Election Commission of Pakistan, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML) candidate Shaukat Aziz secured 76,156 votes while his rival candidate Dr Sikandar Hayat Khan of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) got 29,497 votes. Other six candidates from this constituency were Engineer Jamil Ahmed Malik (113 votes), Chaudhry Ishtiaq Minhas (154), Dr Raja Nathniel Gill (118).
Abdul Qadoos Awan (792), Ghulam Abbas (116) and Nawab Dr Amber Shahzada (92) votes.
According to official results announced by CEC for NA-229 Tharparkar-I, PML candidate Shaukat Aziz got 153,485 votes including 1,280 postal ballot votes, while his rival PPPP candidate secured 10,732 votes including four postal ballot votes.
The other two candidates from the same constituency were Engineer Giyan Chand (769 votes) and Noor Muhammad Bhatti (30 votes).
The CEC further said that the Election Commission acted with neutrality, objectivity, transparency and independence at every stage of the electoral process.
He said that the polling was held on August 18 in those two constituencies in a peaceful atmosphere and Election Commission of Pakistan released progressive unofficial results from the information centre of the commission as soon as it had received the results.
The CEC informed that the representatives of print and electronic media were present in the information centre and he thanked the media for their co-operation to transmit those progressive unofficial results for the information of general public.
Irshad Hassan Khan also clarified that last date for sending applications for issue of postal ballot paper was August 5th.
He said the postal ballot papers duly marked by the entitled persons including government servants, holders of public offices, prisoners and poling personnel were received in closed envelopes before the polling date.
The CEC said those envelopes containing postal ballot papers, were opened by the returning officers at the time of consolidation of results by them.
He also explained that there was no postal ballot paper in NA-59, Attock-III while there were 1,284 postal ballot papers in NA-229, Tharparkar-1.
