NYBOT arabica coffee futures ended slightly down on Friday, with the bulk of activity focused on spread trading between the two front contracts ahead of September's first notice next week, traders said.
"It was all switching today," one trader said. Otherwise, it was an uneventful day, he said. Benchmark December coffee settled at 70.20 cents a lb, down 0.35 cent after trading in a 69.80 cent to 70.80 cent range.
September slid 0.55 cent to 66.55 cents after trading from 66.15 cents to 67.20 cents.
The rest of the contracts ended 0.30 cent to 0.45 cent lower.
Market participants squared their positions from the previous week's activity ahead of September's first notice day on August 23, traders said.
