The Government of Pakistan and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) signed a new technical assistance project here on Saturday.
The narcotics control secretary and senior representative of UNODC Bernard Frahi signed the agreement. Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat was also present on the occasion.
The new technical assistance project amounting to $811,000 and funded by Denmark is designed to better equip the Pakistani law-enforcement agencies to conduct intelligence-led operations against drug trafficking.
Intelligence capacity of FIA, ANF and FC will be enhanced through provision of advisory services, training and relevant equipment.
Later, Bernard Frahi called on Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat.
He briefed the minister about the new technical assistance project. He lauded the role of Pakistan against drug trafficking at the regional and global level.
He added that it was in recognition of Pakistan's efforts that we have decided to enhance the capacity of agencies of Pakistan against drugs.
The minister thanked the UNODC co-operation against the menace of drugs. He assured the representative that Pakistan is committed to completely wipe out the menace of drugs across the globe.
Bernard Frahi appreciated the role of Pakistani agencies against the drug trafficking and hoped the technical assistance project will further help them to boost their activities against drugs.
