Amnesty International urges puppet government to release Kashmiri detainees

The Amnesty International has urged the Mufti-led puppet regime in occupied Kashmir to fulfil its pre-poll promise about release of Kashmiri detainees.
In a letter to puppet chief minister Mufti the Amnesty said, "many Kashmiris are still serving jail terms under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (Pota)."
It is pointed out that political activists, like Naeem Ahmad Khan, Abdul Aziz behind the bars, were re-arrested during the Mufti's regime and booked under the Public Safety Act. The Amnesty said, "there are also many more prisoners, who continue to languish for the last 14 to 15 years."
The Amnesty underlined the fact that those detained under Terrorism and Disturbances Activities (Prevention) Act (Tada), continued to be kept in prisons, even though this law lapsed in 1995. Amnesty International emphasised that Tada cannot be applied retrospectively in occupied Kashmir.
GILANI DETAINED: Meanwhile, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, was put under house arrest on Friday morning. He was prevented from going to south Kashmir town, Islamabad, to express profound grief over the killing in custody of Mujahid commander Manzoor Ahmad Darzi.
The martyred Divisional Commander of Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen belonged to Islamabad. Thousands of mourners took part in his funeral. Processions were taken out on the occasion and people raised high-pitched slogans: "We want Freedom", "Jeevay Jeevay Pakistan".
APHC leaders Mohammad Azam Inqlabi, Hakim Abdul Rashid, Ghulam Nabi Sumji, Mohammad Yousaf Mir and Mohammad Saleem Zargar, on Friday visited Islamabad and expressed solidarity with the family of the martyred commander.
The chairman of Jammu and Kashmir People's League, Shaikh Abdul Aziz, also visited the town.
The spokesman for All Parties Hurriyat conference, in a statement in occupied Srinagar, described killing in custody of the commander of Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen, as a clear instance of Indian state terrorism. He also denounced the arrest in occupied Srinagar of Ejaz Ahmed, brother of Prince Saleem, a leader of Mass Movement.
