Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has announced launching of helicopter service to provide rescue services to victims of serious accidents and other calamities.
He disclosed this while presiding over a meeting at Mayo Hospital here on Saturday.
Health secretary Sohail Ahmad, Mayo Hospital chief executive Dr Mumtaz Hassan, Medical Superintendent Dr Muhammad Fayyaz Ranjha and other high-ranking officers of the department also attended the meeting.
The Chief Minister said initially the helicopter service would be introduced in Lahore and later on it will be extended to Multan.
The service from Lahore to Multan would cater the need of the entire province, he added.
Many precious lives could not be saved due to non-availability of immediate first aid. However, as a result of this service the issue could be resolved, he maintained.
He directed the health department to prepare feasibility report for launching of this service. He also directed to initiate training programme for staff prior to commencement of helicopter service.
Earlier, the Chief Minister was apprised about the construction of surgical tower being completed at a cost of Rs 380 million.
