NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani while supporting the local bodies system on Monday said that it should be given under the control of provincial governments.
Overall, the system was good but being a provincial subject it should be given to the provinces for its smooth functioning, Durrani told a private TV channel (Geo).
He said, chief ministers of all the four provinces would hold a meeting in that regard to evolve a unanimous proposal to be presented to the central government.
Earlier, the matter was discussed with President General Pervez Musharraf as well as former Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali by the provincial chiefs.
To another question he said, the system envisaged the transfer of powers at grassroots level which was a good omen, however, there was no harm in amending its laws if so required.
He said the NWFP government had already transferred powers under this system to the district governments.
