Sindh University has finalised arrangements to hold the two-day International Conference on Human Security in global and regional perspective from 30th August at the Jamshoro Campus.
Scholars, senior professors and diplomats from Egypt, Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Nepal and from universities of Pakistan are expected to attend the conference. The conference, being organised by the Department of International Relations of the university, would be inaugurated by vice-chancellor of University of Sindh Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, while diplomat Najamuddin Shaikh and Dr Andreas Rieck, Resident Representative of Hanns Seidel Foundation, Islamabad, will be the key speakers at the inaugural session.
The first working session, which would cover South Asia, will be chaired by former ambassador Maqbool A. Bhatty. Dr Parvez Iqbal Cheema from Islamabad will present his paper on 'Comparative analysis of traditional security and human security.'
Dr Mehtab Ali Shah, professor of International Relations, University of Sindh, will present his paper on 'Sectarianism - a new threat to human security'. Dr Mohammad Islam will present his paper on 'Political liberalisation in Pakistan.'
In the second session, which will focus on South and Central Asia, Dr Shaheen Afroze from Bangladesh will present her paper on 'Human security in Bangladesh: Discourse and Practice'. Dr Laura Yerekesheva from Kazakhstan will present a paper on 'Migration, identity and human security in Central Asia'. Dr Sanat Khushkumbayev from Kazakhstan will present paper on 'Modern borders in Central Asia: History, ethnicity, human security' and Dr Dharuba Kumar Shrestha from Nepal will present paper on 'Human security in Nepal: Discourse and practice'.
Former ambassador Maqbool A. Bhatty will present his paper on 'China perspective on human security.' Professor Dr M IS Bukhari, Professor Siraj Jamal Siddiqui, Dr Lutfullah Mangi, Fazl Rehman will also speak on the occasion.
Dr Alaxender Nikitin from Russia will present his paper on 'Interface between global and regional political/security consequences of the Middle East Crises'.
Dr Mohammad Salim from Egypt will present his paper on 'Origins of the concept of human security in the Middle East.'
In its concluding session, former ambassador Dr Ross Masood Hussain will present observation and recommendations of the two-day conference.
