A special development plan has been chalked out to improve the road network in the remote border areas of Fata. The project, costing Rs 770 million would be implemented by the Corps of Engineers of 11-Corps during two years period and under this plan 246 Kilometer roads and tracks would be block topped.
Most of the roads to be covered under this plan are those, which the Corps of Engineers had constructed over the past two years.
The NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah (Retd) was given a detailed presentation by the Corps of Engineers in this regard at the Governor's House on Monday, which was also attended by all the Political Agents besides Secretary to Governor Sahibzada Saeed Ahmed, Secretary Fata Security Brigadier Mahmood Shah (Retd), Additional Secretary P&D Fata Aftab Akbar Durrani and directors of the respective Fata departments.
Presentation also covered all those development projects, which the Pakistan Army has since completed in the border and inaccessible tribal areas. These also include the projects funded by the Governor's Secretariat Fata. It was told on the occasion that a number of primary schools as well as BHUs have also been opened in these areas.
The governor expressed his satisfaction over the ongoing development process in the remote tribal areas. However, he stressed proper co-ordination between different executing and planning agencies so as the tribal areas are developed according to the needs and requirements of the respective tribesmen.
The governor said that specification of road projects must be taken care of and in this connection he urged that his earlier directives must be implemented.
