Plea to ensure 2 percent job quota implementation for handicapped

K. Jamaluddin, a visually impaired activist for the cause of the development of physically disabled citizens has appealed to the government to ensure actual implementation of two percent job quota reserved for less advantageous segment of the society.
Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday Jamaluddin also a senior citizen of the country and President of the newly formed Organisation for the Welfare of the Special People appreciating the official announcement made to raise the job quota for disabled people of the country stressed that it must be enforced in letter and spirit.
Elaborating his stance, he reminded of frequent instances where persons fraudulently termed as disabled had been employed in different government organisations and departments whereas the genuine persons are denied of their right to get jobs.
The activist also regretted tendency among officials quarters to express their ignorance regarding any government decision meant for benefit of disabled individual.
He in this regard also regretted that there was hardly any government organisation from where data regarding appointment of the disabled could be acquired adding that concerned officials generally tend to avoid giving details and disclose facts.
Answering a question, he said decisions made in the past regarding even one percent quota for disabled largely remained on papers and could not really benefit concerned individuals, although a significant number of them were well educated and technically skilled.
The President of Organisation for the Welfare of the Special People appealed to the concerned government quarters to look into the matter adding that his organisation was ready to assist the government in implementing the decision related to welfare of the special persons.
In this context, K. Jamaluddin also called upon the qualified and educated physically or visually disabled persons to avail the opportunity offered to them through government decision to raise job quota for them from one percent to two percent.
According to him equal responsibility also lies on people to approach for vacant posts in accordance to their respective capabilities and also see that quota does not go in vain.
