The Sindh chief minister's adviser on information, Salahuddin Haider, on Tuesday visited the Sindh Madressatul Islam.
During his visit he also addressed the faculty as well as the students, and went round the museum of this historic institution which is also the alma mater of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
A Sindh Madressah statement said the CM's adviser called for the upgradation of the institution to the level of a university, as he is of the view that this marvellous institution deserves such a status.
Salahuddin Haider said, in his capacity as the adviser, he would recommend to the Sindh governor, who is also the chancellor of the public sector universities in the province, that the Sindh Madressah should be accorded its due status.
He was of the view that Sindh Madressah is a national asset and the prestige of the province as well as that of Pakistan.
Salahuddin pointed out that at this very institution Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah had received his early education.
He was of the view that the academic standard in the country was declining and the process had started with the nationalisation of the educational institutions.
The adviser said that concerted efforts should be made to help improve the academic standard at our educational institutions, and recalled the role that was played by Sindh Madressah to produce famous sportsmen especially in the game of cricket. He particularly mentioned the name of the Little Master Hanif Mohammad.
The Principal of the institution, Mohammad Ali Shaikh, presented the address of welcome, saying that various aspects of the role of Sindh Madressah with reference to its historic role towards the nation building.
Mohammad Ali Shah also stressed that Sindh Madressah should be given the status of a university.
