Jamaat-i-Islami Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmed has said that Islam attaches great importance to the women's rights and accords them special status and respect.
According to a JI press release issued here, he was talking to Norwegian Minister for Local Governments, Erna Solberg in Oslo, Norway.
He said, JI gave top priority to the education of women and had been taking various steps in that regard.
He said Islam had presented a comprehensive system of family life, and others should respect our family traditions.
"We do not believe in confrontation of civilisations and want co-operation on the basis of commonalties in civilisations and dialogue on differences," he observed.
Qazi Hussain Ahmed said he had always advised Pakistanis living in Norway and other foreign lands to respect the laws of the land, but they must also use their right to protest against those laws that were against human values.
Norwegian Minister for Local Government said that India and Pakistan were both atomic powers and they should hold talks to sort out their outstanding issues as per UN resolutions.
The minister also expressed concern over the plight of Kashmiri women being subjected to cruelties by the occupation forces.
