The Governments of Sindh and Punjab have submitted their progress reports to the Ministry of Water & Power regarding abolition of local taxes imposed on Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
Federal Minister for Water & Power, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao stated this while talking to journalists here on Tuesday.
The decision to abolish district and other municipal levies would be taken soon after considering the progress reports sent by the two provinces, he said.
The Sindh and Punjab had earlier agreed to withdraw taxes/duties on IPPs during the first inter-provincial co-ordination committee meeting held on July 25 last. They also agreed to discuss the proposal to their respective provincial cabinets.
Responding to a question, Sherpao said that we have also requested the federal government for convening a separate Community Development Working Party (CDWP) meeting to discuss power projects for improvement of transmission lines on war footings.
The minister further said that line losses of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) have been reduced to 38 percent from 40 percent while Wapda losses declined to 25.6 percent due to better management.
At least five projects of power transmission lines have been delayed for some reasons, which would be discussed in the special CDWP meeting, he added.
