Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) office-bearers, students and parents at a joint meeting on Tuesday passed several resolutions, demanding Sindh Education Department to immediately take back its decision of Government St Pat's and St Joseph's colleges denationalisation.
They also demanded an immediate halt to the process of denationalisation of educational institutions, removal of Sindh Education Minister Dr Hameeda Khoro, allocation of five percents of country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for education and keeping education among top most priorities.
During the meeting, SPLA Sindh President Professor Syed Riaz Ahsan told the participants that after denationalisation of educational institutions, those who were paying from Rs 300 to 1,200 as tuition fee would have to pay Rs 3,000 to 4,000.
"After denationalisation of colleges, education will become out of the reach for people hailing from middle and lower middle class segments of the society," he said adding that teaching and non-teaching staff at those educational institutions would also be handed over to private owners.
Later, participants of the meeting held protest demonstration outside the college against denationalisation of colleges and chanted slogans against Sindh Education Minister Dr Hameeda Khoro. They also presented a resolution to Town Nazim Shah Faisal Town Haji Mushtaq and urged him to support campaign against denationalisation of educational institutions.
