The Punjab government is spending more than Rs 8 billion during current fiscal year on the construction of 'farm-to-market' roads in rural parts of the province.
Official sources told Business Recorder here on Tuesday that step had been taken under the special directives of the Punjab chief minister.
The main purpose of the construction of these farm-to-market roads was to link far-off and ignored rural areas with their respective district and tehsil headquarters.
Under the programme, adequate efforts would also be made for linking these farm-to market roads with an inter-district roads aimed at lessening not only the travelling problems, but also enabling the farmers community to easy transport of agricultural produce to their nearest Mandi towns, sources added.
