Federal Minister for Education Zobaida Jalal has said that there is a need to reconsider our scheme in curricula to ensure its consistency with the ideology of enlightened moderation.
She was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a project National Consultation entitled "Citizenship Rights and Responsibilities Pakistan (CRRP).
The CRRP is a project to address citizenship education, human rights education and conflict resolution at the level of schools, teachers, students, their home and communities.
The minister said: "we need to revisit our schemes of work in curricula, curriculum of teacher education, approaches in pedagogy to ensure that they indeed are consistent with the thesis and ideology of enlightened moderation".
The minister said there were many major programs underway to implement the National Plan of Action for Human Rights in the country.
Zobaida said that we were firmly committed to the implementation of the Action plan, which was currently underway to honour our national and international pledges to CRC, EFA, MDGs and various ILO conventions.
The minister said that journey had begun with United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), North American Air Defence Command (Norad), United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef), International Labour Organisation (ILO), Jica, SDC, Cida and some other 'partners.
We wanted to reach many more milestones with many more partners as a movement for a truly enlightened, educated and enabled Pakistan, she added.
Citing the mission of the Education Sector Reforms Action Plan 2001-2005, Zobaida said its objectives of promoting quality education, producing enlightened and skilled citizens and integrate Pakistan into global framework of human centred economic development, can only be achieved within a specific national context underpinned by our ideology and beliefs.
Stressing the role of youth in achieving the objectives, the minister said that our youth was full of responsible and refreshing ideas, and there was need to give concrete shape to their creative initiatives to ensure the vision of enlightened moderation.
"Youth are perhaps the most energetic citizens of the country who can be mobilised for social dialogues through new interactive methods of sharing knowledge, skills and attitudes and can make Pakistan stronger and tolerant", the minister said.
