The Chairman of Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB), Air Marshal Shahid Hamid (Retd), has said that five foreign companies had launched five projects worth $875 million in alternative energy sector.
Talking to reporters here on Wednesday he said that the projects in wind and solar energy would provide 17,000 jobs in coastal areas of Sindh and generate 875 MW electricity.
He said that Chinese, German, Danish and American companies had launched projects in areas between Gharo and Keti Bandar. The German company, G-Energy, would invest $400 million, Denmark's Vestas would invest $100 million, US company Axes $ 75 million, and the Stack and X-Fit, two Chinese companies, would invest $ 108 million and $ 91 million, respectively, in these projects.
He said that Sindh government has provided 22,000 acres land to the AEDB for these projects. He said these projects would help the government to a good extent to overcome the power shortage in Sindh.
He said that Steel Mills, KPT and Port Qasim would play a more effective role by taking benefit of these projects.
Shahid said that the world's third largest company, Gamsa, in the alternative energy had also expressed interest to invest in this sector. He said that development of alternative energy would help in controlling the environmental pollution.
