Sindh Food and Agriculture Minister Arif Mustafa Jatoi has said that the wheat being imported by Trading Corporation of Pakistan would be available in the market before Ramazan.
In a meeting with TCP Chairman Masood Alam Rizvi on Tuesday, he reviewed the existing wheat position in Sindh and discussed arrangements and modalities for the import of 500,000 tons wheat.
Jatoi said that TCP chairman had informed him that this wheat would be available for Sindh from September onwards ie before the beginning of Ramazan. The arrival of imported wheat would enhance the wheat reserves of the province.
The minister said that this wheat would assist Sindh Food Department to bring stability in prices and make its availability easier during Ramazan.
He said that according to TCP, first consignment would arrive by mid-September at Port Qasim.
Sindh would get 250,000 ton wheat out of total import of 500,000 tons.
Jatoi also visited Port Qasim, along with senior staff, and met Port Qasim Authority Chairman Admiral Taj Muhammad Khatak and discussed logistic details such as port capacity, storage and transportation system.
The minister appreciated the co-operation extended by Port Qasim Authority in the import of wheat.
He said that the timely arrival and distribution of this wheat was important for Sindh as it would help in controlling the prices of wheat in the province and there would be complete co-ordination between TCP, PQA and provincial food and agriculture department.
