The Ministry of Tourism will build 13 more PTDC motels across the country for providing more resort facilities to foreign and local tourists, sources told Business Recorder here on Thursday.
The ministry has approved to construct more PTDC motels with modern facilities to overcome lodging problems, sources said.
Out of the proposed 13 motels, four will be constructed in Balochistan, one each at Quetta, Jiwani, Gwadar, and Takht-e-Suleman, five in Punjab, one each at Multan, Faisalabad, Sadiqabad, Nankana Sahib and Gujrat. Similarly, one each will be set up in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Sindh, while two will be constructed in federal capital.
To a question about the cost of the motels, the sources said that the estimated cost and time period for construction is yet to be finalised.
The sources further said that to bring other areas at par with the northern areas of Pakistan regarding tourism facilities, these new motels have been proposed in other parts of the country.
The sources disclosed that the ministry spent Rs 125 million during last fiscal to improve tourism sector. Last year tourism sector received 135 million dollars income and is expected to receive more during the current year, the sources expected.
To a question about the incentives given by government to the sector, the sources said that government has reduced five percent duty on the imported goods used by the tourism sector and not produced locally adding private sector was also being encouraged to invest in the sector.
