President General Pervez Musharraf on Friday welcomed the signing of the framework agreement on economic co-operation between Pakistan and the Gulf Co-operation Council, expressing the hope that it would promote economic co-operation, exchange of information in various economic fields and encourage necessary technical co-operation between them.
The President stated this at a meeting with Abdul Rahman Bin Hamad Al Attiyah, Secretary General of Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) who called on him and discussed relations between Pakistan and the GCC states.
The president stated that Pakistan's relations with the GCC member countries constitute an essential pillar of its foreign policy, and added "These are nurtured by mutual trust and confidence that have stood the test of time."
The agreement, signed on Thursday, envisages expanding and liberalising trade including initiating discussions on the feasibility of a Free Trade Area between the parties.
The Secretary General GCC visited Pakistan from August 26 to 27.
