New Park Energy Limited, a private company, would soon install a 45 megawatt wind driven power generation unit in Karachi, as the first phase of its 400 megawatt project. The decision in this regard was made in a meeting, presided by the Chairman Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) Air Marshal Shahid Hamid (Retd), here on Friday.
The electricity will be supplied to Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) for distribution and consumption, AEDB has allowed New Park Energy Limited with the Consortium of General Electric (Wind Energy) Germany, Dorsch Consult Germany, and Albario Engineering Limited to install the plant.
The representatives of the Consortium gave a detailed presentation about the project. They told the meeting that the Consortium has 125 years of global experience with over 20 years in wind energy technology.
Chief Executive of New Park Energy Limited, Saeed Akhtar said that the Consortium's proposal will help the government by producing electricity through wind.
He said that the proposal is based on investment of over $ 400 million by the Consortium to generate 400 Megawatt in various phases. Wind energy is being used as an alternative source of power generation as it is environment friendly, renewable and cost effective, Saeed Akhtar added.
He said this mega project would open the doors of development and encourage other foreign investors to invest in Pakistan creating tremendous economic activity and offer much needed job opportunities.
Karachi coast being considered ideal for wind farms, the government has decided to provide land to the Consortium near Port Qasim within two weeks to expedite the start of work.
