The faithful prayed for the safety of the Holy Cities of Najaf and Kufa and other cities and the people of Iraq in the Friday prayers, reports UPP correspondent.
At many mosques, the Khatibs and Imams strongly condemned the damage to the shrine of Hazrat Ali and to the Mosque in Kufa by the action taken by the US army along with the local forces and volunteers in the cities of Najaf and Kufa.
The action taken by Spiritual Iraqi leader Sistani was also welcomed at the sermons before the Friday prayers by the Imams and Khatibs. The congregations also prayed for the safety and integrity of Pakistan and for the success of the Kashmiri people struggling for their fundamental right of self-determination.
At some mosques, the faithful also raised slogans against the US forces' action in the cities of Najaf and Kufa and demanded an immediate end to the military operations in the two cities and the complete vacation of all foreign forces from Iraq.
Special police and rangers personnel stood on duty at the main mosques in the city to avert any untoward situation.
