The city traffic police issued 541,247 challan tickets, and collected fine worth Rs 79.5 million from traffic rules violators during the first seven months of the current year (January to July 31).
The traffic police impounded 37,328 vehicles, and arrested 64,340 drivers on various charges, said Lahore Traffic SSP Major Faisal Hussain while talking to APP here on Sunday.
The Traffic police have issued challan tickets to 101,662 rickshaws, 762 taxis, 58,403 wagons, 7,758 coaches, 30,337 pick ups, 18,369 buses, 9,897 trucks, 5,635 tractors, 262,691 motorcycles, 45,132 cars, and 601 jeeps, he added.
Major Faisal said the police issued 21,115 licences, and received Rs 1,742,910 as licence fees, while suspended 817 licences from January to August 15 this year.
He said the police also punished 60 traffic officers (upper-Subordinates) and 206 traffic officials (lower-subordinates) in seven months of this year over different charges.
Major Faisal said there was a dire need for creating traffic sense among the motorcyclists.
"Traffic officials have been directed to behave nicely while dealing with motorcyclists", he said.
