Fourteen combined check posts of Customs, Frontier Corps (FC) and political administration on Pak-Afghan border in the tribal belt are going to become operational from Wednesday, September 1.
Collector Customs Peshawar, Liaquat Alley Agha while addressing a press conference here at Customs House on Monday announced this.
The points identified for the establishing these check posts are situated in North Waziristan Agency, Kurram Agency, Mohmand Agency, Bajaur Agency and Khyber Agency. The Collectorate of Customs Peshawar, political administration and personnel of the Frontier Corps (FC) would jointly operate these posts.
These check posts would be established at Boya and Ghulam Khan of North Waziristan, Teri Mengal, Khar Lachi, Laka Tegha, Shaheedano Dhand and Shor Ko (Kurram Agency), Athokhel, Kha Pakh and Galanai of Mohmand Agency, Ghakhi Pass and Nawa Pass of Bajaur Agency and Torkham at Khyber Agency.
The government has also decided to establish such kind of check posts in South Waziristan.
Liaquat Alley Agha said that the collectorate would deploy 182 employees of the customs in those check posts. The Deputy Superintendent of the Customs would head those joint check posts. Similarly, each check post would have four Inspectors and eight constables.
He said that the officials deployed at those checks would be posted in settled areas after showing better performance during four months posting in these check posts.
Decision for the establishment of these check posts was taken during a meeting at Governor's House this month, he informed.
As the check posts are located in remote tribal areas along Pak-Afghan border would require special vehicles for which the government was likely to spend an estimated amount of Rs 35 million.
The political administration will provide assistance for operating these check posts and would deploy traditional Khasadar Force to patrol along with the customs officials.
