The Congress-led coalition government in the southern Indian state of Karnataka agreed Monday to drop all charges against jailed firebrand Hindu nun Uma Bharti, a report said.
Last week, Bharti, who belongs to India's main opposition Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), resigned as chief minister of the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh after she was arrested over a 10-year-old Hindu-Muslim riot case. She was sentenced to 14 days in custody.
Bharti, 43, who dresses in saffron robes, is known for her fiery speeches and is one of the rising stars of the BJP.
