Joint opposition in NWFP Assembly on Tuesday filed a requisition to the assembly secretariat for convening a session. The requisition had the signatures of 42 members of the opposition parties.
The requisition was filed by leader of the opposition in the provincial assembly, Shehzada Gustasip Khan in the presence of the parliamentary leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), PPP-Sherpao, Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) and Awami National Party (ANP).
The requisition was also stifled with a nine-point agenda to be debated in the provincial assembly.
The joint opposition in their agenda, for which the session has been called, is holding debate on 'Shariat' Bill, District Development Advisory Committee (DDAC), umbrella schemes, 'zakat' committees elections, non-implementation of the reports of standing committees, posting & transfers, law and order, price hike and unemployment.
Talking on the occasion Shehzada Gustasip Khan dispelled the impression of any in house change saying that the opposition benches wanted political stability in the province. He said that since the establishment of the sitting assembly, the role of the opposition had remained positive.
He said that in the larger interest of the province, they had left no stone unturned in co-operation with the government however the MMA led provincial government had never reciprocated in the same manner. He said that like provincial government, the opposition political parties were elected with the mandate of the public.
The opposition leader said that they were struggling for the people's rights and of the view that through the development programme and adoption of umbrella schemes the government had abolished the role of gross root level departments in the development schemes.
In response to a question, he said that government had included non-elected persons in the 'Shariat' Council, who were making legislation outside of the house saying that the opposition was determined to stop such undemocratic and extra-parliamentary steps of the provincial government.
Criticising the role of the MMA central leadership, he said that they were accusing federal government as dictatorial and undemocratic, but in province they themselves had established worst kind of dictatorship and launching development schemes in the constituencies of few one.
Replying another query, he dispelled the impression that any of the MPAs of the ruling alliance was in contact with the opposition.
