The number of passengers flying Gulf Air from Abu Dhabi continues to rise strongly, further boosting the airline's drive towards its financial target of break even this year while at the same time enhancing the capital's economy.
According to a Gulf Air press release performance figures for the period from January to July 2004, just released by the airline of the UAE, Kingdom of Bahrain and Oman show that nearly two million passengers flew to and from capital's airport during this period - an increase of 34 percent on the same period last year.
"We operated just over 7,000 flights from Abu Dhabi International Airport in the first seven months of this year," said James Hogan, Gulf Air's President and Chief Executive.
"This represents an increase of 22 percent on figures for the same period in 2003. More significantly the airline has contributed around one billion Dirhams to the capital's local economy."
Gulf Air's performance at Bahrain International Airport, one of its three regional hubs, shows that nearly two million passengers flew to and from the airport from January to July 2004 - an increase of 22 percent on the same period last year.
The increase has been bolstered by the addition of 1,200 more flights, which have been added to meet customer demand to popular destinations.
Similarly, the Sultanate of Oman continues to drive Gulf Air's performance for 2004. Performance figures for the period from January to July 2004, just released by the national airline, show over 900,000 passengers flew to and from Seeb International Airport - an increase of 60 percent on the same period last year.
The strong passenger performance has been significantly bolstered by the introduction of daily, direct service between Muscat and London, and Muscat and Karachi.
