NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah (Retd) inaugurated the Free Dialysis and Nephrology Unit, newly established by Ittefaq Traders Community Welfare Programme, a non-governmental organisation in collaboration with the District Government, Kohat at Liaquat Memorial Hospital (LMH).
The unit has, three dialysis machines along with other required equipment and facilities has been established in the old nephrology block of the hospital and without any loss of time as many as fifty patients have since been admitted.
Later on addressing a prestigious inaugural ceremony, the Governor stressed the need of making collective efforts to help the needy patients in getting proper treatment facilities.
The Governor especially pointed towards the philanthropists and well to do segments of the society and said that they must come forward and generously contribute in this connection.
Talking about the role and services of Ittefaq Traders Community Welfare Programme, the Governor also mentioned his first ever meeting with its management almost three years back, which he said led to the provision of a plot measuring 8-kanals prime land at Gulbahar in Peshawar, upon which the construction of a big hospital is in progress at present.
He appreciated the services being rendered by the members of the organisation especially its Chairman Abdul Hamid Gurwara and President Khawaja Aftab Iqbal.
However, he suggested to establish an endowment fund to run the dialysis unit and announced a grant of Rs 20 million on his behalf for this purpose.
District Nazim Kohat Malik Asad also addressed the ceremony and highlighted the efforts of the District Government being made for welfare of the deserving population.
He also mentioned the functionalisation of the nephrology block of the hospital as well as streamlining the working of other organisations including deaf and dumb schools.
Abdul Hamid, earlier welcoming the guests highlighted the activities of the organisation and said that almost 10,000 patients have been provided dialysis facilities in Peshawar.
Presently, he added 16 patients are being provided this facility on daily basis and from next year it would be doubled. Beside, he said construction of 50 bedded modern hospital at a cost of Rs 8 millions is also in progress over the plot provided by the government.
Later on, Khawaja Aftab Iqbal thanked the governor and other guests for attending the ceremony. The function besides a large number of people representing different walks of life was also attended by MPAs Syed Qalbe Hassan and Mrs Rifat Akbar Swati as well as Districts Nazimeen of Hangu and Karrak Pir Haider Shah and Sharif Khattak respectively.
