Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has planned about 78 high profile management courses to better its staff performance.
The purpose of these programmes is to train PTCL staff in a way that they could lead the Company from the front, especially in the coming deregulated telecom environment, said Shahzad Saddan Senior Executive Vice President (HR) of PTCL.
He was speaking at the certificate distribution ceremony of the Institute of Communications Technologies (ICT), Is1amabad, on Friday.
The institute had arranged a three-day course for the General Managers of PTCL on international telecom policies and international organisations.
Shahzad said that PTCL is fully alive to the impending challenges posed by the deregulation of the telecom sector in the country.
He said that deregulation has generated a competition among different telecom operators and only those would survive which have state-of-the-art technology and trained staff. "That is why PTCL is attaching utmost importance to the training of its staff," he added.
The SEVP said a system has been devised whereby all promotions in future would be made keeping in view the performance of the employees.
Shahzad said that personally he believed in merit and was against the pick-and-choose policy.
He said that the incumbent PTCL management would strictly adhere to the policy of merit and performance-based promotions. That would certainly increase the efficiency of the Company, he added.
Earlier, Dr Mahmood Khan, Principal of ICT, briefed the audience about the activities of the Institute. He also gave details of different programmes offered by ICT.
He said that the course had covered topics of public policy for the private sector, a survey of international telecom organisations, international telecom law and issues covering transfer of technology etc.
