Here is how major stock markets outside the United States ended on Friday.
EUROPE STOCKS EXCHANGE: European shares notched up a third straight week of gains as data showing improvement in the US labour market overshadowed weakness in tech stocks following a grim outlook from US bellwether Intel Corp.
Anglo-Swedish drugs group AstraZeneca lent support as it rallied 2.5 percent on hopes its new anticoagulant drug will win backing from a US regulatory panel next week, while spirits group Allied Domecq rose 2 percent after promising strong growth in annual earnings.
The FTSE Eurotop 300 index of pan-European blue chips closed 0.8 percent firmer at 989.2 points, up almost 5 percent from the 2004 low it hit in mid-August.
FRANKFURT STOCKS EXCHANGE: The DAX index ended at 3,866.99 points, up 33.54 or 0.87 percent. The index gained 15.81 since last week.
PARIS STOCKS EXCHANGE: The CAC-40 index closed at 3,665.94 points, up 32.56 or 0.90 percent, 16.7 points higher on the week.
ZURICH STOCKS EXCHANGE: The Swiss market index closed at 5,502.5 points, up 52.7 or 0.97 percent, a gain of 38.6 points since last Friday.
MILAN STOCKS EXCHANGE: The All Share Mibtel index closed at 20,872 points, up 185 or 0.89 percent, 384 points up on the week.
SYDNEY STOCKS EXCHANGE: Stocks closed down 0.4 percent, off all-time highs touched earlier in the session, as investors cashed in on gains notched up during the corporate reporting season.
The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index closed down 0.37 percent, or 13.2 points, to 3,577.3, up 18.4 points from last Friday.
JOHANNESBURG STOCKS EXCHANGE: The stock market ended the week in positive territory with banks buoyed by speculation of a foreign buy-out of one of their number.
The All-share index closed at 11,223.91 points, up 71.72 or 0.64 percent, up 60.56 points from seven days ago.
The All Gold index closed at 1,905.31 points, down 19.77 or 1.03 percent, down 80.15 from last Friday.
The Industrial index closed at 7,846.19 points, up 58.65 or 0.75 percent, up 125.47 points since August 27.
