City Government is making efforts for improvement in quality of education and establishment of new educational institutions and has allocated 31 percent of Rs 31 billion CDGK budget.
Last year 32 new colleges were opened and Rs 80 million spent on the construction and rehabilitation of existing schools, said City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan while speaking as chief guest at the award distribution ceremony of Programmer Secondary School, North Karachi.
The City Nazim pointed out that education has been made free up to Matric while girls in Class VI to VIII are provided free text books and a monthly stipend of Rs 100.
He emphasised on female education and said an educated girl can make the whole family educated.
He said children are a trust of nation with the teachers and their training on right lines, character building and mental reformation is the responsibility of teachers and parents.
Naimatullah Khan told the gathering that Pakistan is the ideological nation in the world. It came into being in the name of Islam and there is need to have a system, an example of which was presented by Holy Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him) in Madinat-ul-Munawwara.
He said a great responsibility devolves upon the new generation to transform Pakistan into an ideological state.
The Nazim Karachi said that a lot of talent is available in Karachi and talented people exist in every field of life who needs an encouragement so that Pakistan could progress.
He said existing difference between government and private schools should go now. He informed that government schools in Karachi's backward areas like Lyari and North Karachi had produced 100 percent results in the Board examination.
Naimatullah Khan said results in government schools have registered a tremendous rise from existing 30 to 70 percent and efforts are continuing for further improvement gradually.
The award distribution function was also addressed by Educational Advisor to City Nazim, Naseem Siddiqi, Qazi Sadruddin, Principal Rukhsana Yunus and others.
