Local Government system is beneficial for the people of the country and a large number of problems have been resolved at the grassroots level through it.
This was stated by Chairman, National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB), Daniyal Aziz while speaking in a PTV programme. He said, devolution of power at the grassroots level is strengthening political system and improving the atmosphere.
Daniyal Aziz said, it is for the first time in the country's history that powers have been transferred at the grassroots level. Now, local level problems of any area are settled within the area and by their representatives, he added.
He said, local governments raise their own funds and also allocate for education and health besides other sectors of public welfare and development.
Replying to a question, he said Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz wanted close co-ordination between local governments, MNAs and MPAs to make the LG system more effective.
He said the PM has appreciated the devolution of power plan and showed his keen interest in strengthening the system. The government wants to streamline all matters pertaining to local governments by fully implementing the devolution of power plan, he added.
Responding to another question, he said those who wrongly availed benefits from the previous system made unrealistic propaganda against the local government system. He said, this is ugly propaganda by the frustrated elements that don't want system to flourish.
Daniyal Aziz said fruits of the LG system are emerging and with the passage of time, the desired results would be achieved.
