By the grace of Almighty Allah the officers and sailors of Pakistan Navy are fully prepared to meet the challenges of future and renew the pledge to remain alert, vigilant and ready for defence of our motherland, said Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Shahid Karimullah.
"We commit ourselves to sail beyond the call of duty to defend every inch of our sacred soil at all costs," said Admiral Shahid Karimullah in his Order of the Day, which was read out by commanding office of PN units on the occasion of Defence Day of Pakistan.
The geo-political scenario in our region has added a different dimension to the concept of national defence and it now places extra responsibilities on our shoulders.
"Not only that but we should remain abreast to the latest technological developments in the field of defence and utilise our indigenous resources for building an effective defence of our motherland," the Admiral said in his message.
The nation realises that our success lies in self-reliance and Pakistan Navy with the grace of Almighty Allah and farsightedness of our leaders has made a major headway in the field of indigenisation and self-reliance by building the state of the art submarines, missile boats and mine hunters, thus contributing a significant share towards the defence and economy of the country, he said.
Pakistan Navy celebrates the Defence Day of Pakistan to commemorate its bold and courageous operations during the Indo-Pak war of 1965, when PN flotilla, despite being numerically inferior to the enemy, wrested the control of North Arabian Sea, ensuring safety of the maritime frontiers of the country.
Pakistan Navy courageously bombarded and destroyed sensitive defence installations located at Dawarka on the Kutch Kathiawar Coast.
The daylong celebrations of Defence Day commenced with gun salute followed by offering of thanksgiving prayers and Quran Khawani at all naval mosques. Wreath laying ceremony took place at the Mazar-e-Quaid. Wreaths were also laid at the graves of the Shaheeds.
In line to celebrate this auspicious day at coastal area, Pakistan Navy established a three-day medical camp at Gwadar.
The medical camp comprises specialists of ENT, eye, gynaecology, child and skin diseases. They will provide medical treatment and free medicines to the local population.
The medical camp is also aimed at educating local populace of Gwadar in public health, prevention of diseases, childcare, personnel hygiene and sanitation of living areas. Lady doctors of the medical team will examine and provide treatment to the women and advise them about child health care.
