Sindh CM's Advisor Mumtaz Hameed has said he would approach Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad and Provincial Finance Minister Sardar Ahmed for early release of fund for the construction of Mole dam in Gaddap.
"The construction of dam would not only beneficial to the local population, but also be an additional source of provision of water for Karachiites", the advisor said during a visit to the site of land allocated for the dam, according to a statement issued here on Monday.
He said both federal and provincial governments have started taking practical steps for construction of various dams all over Sindh.
Mumtaz Hameed said by construction of these dams, job opportunities to the local population would be available on one hand and on other large areas of barren land around the city will come under cultivation.
Briefing the advisor, District Officer (DO) Younus Arian said the estimated cost for the construction of the dam is around Rs 1,900 million, adding the construction of the dam is part of the Karachi Package to be constructed by the City District Government Karachi with the co-operation of the Sindh government.
Younus Arian informed the advisor that rains water is accumulated here, but due to absence of dam it goes to sea, saying after construction of the dam the rains water would be preserved, and due to delay in release of funds the development work on the project could not be initiated.
The local growers also informed the advisor at present, the water table is at 150 feet, but after construction of the dam the level would go further deep as a result more land would be brought under cultivation.
The advisor on the occasion assured the local population that he will make all out effort for early implementation of the project.
