The Federal Minister for Water and Power, Liaquat Jatoi has stressed upon the KESC engineers to ensure quality services to the people of Karachi underlining the needs for meeting the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
During his visit to the KESC head office on Tuesday, the minister presided over a meeting to examine the present status of the power utility and explore possibilities of brining about radical development of the power supply and strengthening the installations and distribution network.
Chairman KESC Riaz Ahmed Khan, KESC chief engineers and other senior officers attended the meeting. Managing Director KESC, Brigadier Tariq Saddozai made a detailed presentation about the current power generation, transmission, distribution and financial improvement plan being pursued by the corporation.
The minister while appreciating the efforts being made by the KESC management said that improvement has no ending and is a continuous process, which he would be regularly overseeing himself to make KESC a progressive and dynamic organisation in line with the expectations of the city electricity consumers.
Addressing the utility officials he said that his prime objective would be that the KESC should have a service oriented work culture at the field level and staff at the consumer-end should interact with the public with utmost politeness and any negligence or inappropriate behaviours with the electricity consumers would not be tolerated.
While, bill paying good consumers should be served with promptness, at the same time power theft should be totally eliminated so that the good consumers are not burdened with the costs of the stolen electricity, he added.
He said his guidance and support would be available to KESC and matters requiring approval of the federal government for addition, up-gradation and renovation of the power supply installations and the distribution network would be pursued by him, in order to provide uninterrupted power supply to the people.
Further, he would deliberate the issue of finding ways and means for reduction in electricity charges with the Prime Minister and under his guidance would present it to the federal cabinet, for providing more relief to the electricity consumers.
Cheaper power would give tremendous boost to the industry, trade and commerce, which was the present requirement of the country, he added.
Later, talking to members of electronic and print media at the KESC head office, he said that this was his first visit and he would be keenly observing the quality of services being provided by the corporation on a regular basis. For the purpose, he would shortly be formulating a minister's complaint office at Karachi for feedback and consumer satisfaction.
Besides, at the national level he would shortly be announcing a ministers inspection team, which will include retired judges, police officer and members from the public with impeccable background for keeping him abreast with the status of the peoples aspiration, problems and the working of his ministry.-PR
