Federal Minister for Railways, Shamim Haider has expressed the resolve to sort out the problems exist in the affairs of Pakistan Railway by running it purely on merit.
He was talking to newsmen at Railways Headquarters where he attended a detailed briefing over the working performance and problems of PR.
Shamim, who has assumed his office just three days ago, said that PR was facing problems like paucity of resources and deficit and his priority would be to ensure provision of funds required by this organisation and improved its working to a level where deficit could be finished.
The minister said that improvement in an organisation was not possible if it was not provided required funds from 1990 to 1999. He said that project of doubling the track between Khanewal-Lodhran would be completed within stipulated period.
He said that government provided four-time more funds to highways than railways but then they would request the government to provide funds to PR so that the deficit could be overcome and he would review the proposal of converting Railways in to corporation.
To another question he said that it was essential to connect Gwadar with central network of Railways and hoped that the government would provide funds for this important project.
The minister also stressed the need for introducing train service for northern areas in order to promote tourism.
