The delegates, currently attending the 50th Session of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) in Toronto, met Chairman Senate, Mohammedmian Soomro.
They congratulated the Chairman Senate and members of Pakistan delegation on the decision of CPA to revive Pakistan's entry into the Commonwealth, says a press release received here from Toronto.
President CPA and Speaker of the House at Commons of Canada, Peter Miliken called on Chairman Senate Mohammedmian Soomro and congratulated him on CPA's decision to restore the membership of Pakistan to the told of Commonwealth.
Matters pertaining to the promotion of bilateral relations and parliamentary co-operation between the two countries also came under discussion.
The President of CPA appreciated the efforts of Pakistan for promoting regional and international peace and co-operation through dialogue and mutual understanding.
The Speaker of the House of Common Canada lauded President Musharraf's role in combating international terrorism. Both sides explored the possibilities of expanding the bilateral relations in various fields and agreed to enhance exchange of the visits of various delegations with a view to promote interaction at all levels, especially between the parliamentarians of the two countries.
The British Parliamentary delegation led by Denis Marshal, also met Chairman Senate Mohammedmian Soomro and Speaker National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain. Matter relating to further strengthening of the bilateral relations and promotion of trade between Pakistan, United Kingdom and European Union (EU) came under discussion.
They also discussed the possibility of opening of British Consulate in Karachi seeking to provide visa facilities to Pakistani students admission in United Kingdom and training of teachers in the educational institutions of UK.
The Chairman Senate briefed the delegation about the recent talks on Indian occupied Kashmir between Pakistan and India.
The Senate Chairman highlighted President Pervez Musharraf's policy of enlightened moderation and said that Pakistan is against terrorism, extremism and gender discrimination.
It may be mentioned that Pakistan's parliamentary delegation, currently attending CPA conferences in Toronto, is being led by Chairman Senate Mohammedmian Soomro and includes speakers of the National Assembly, members of the parliament and speakers of the Provincial Assemblies.
