The Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) President, Mian Anjum Nisar, has called upon the government to remove the existing anomalies in taxes on vanaspati ghee with immediate effect to save the industry.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the LCCI chief said that there must be uniformity in taxes and duties and added that the difference of taxes on ghee industry in federally administered areas/provincially administered tribal areas (PATA) and settled areas is fast pushing the industry to the wall.
He said that twenty five percent ghee being prepared in FATA and PATA could hit markets in settled area with chances of misuse of this relaxation.
He pointed out that there is a difference of Rs 13 per kg in terms of taxes and duties on vanaspati ghee in settled areas and FATA/PATA, which is harming the vanaspati industry all over the country.
