The Sindh government on Wednesday set up a four-member scrutiny committee to ensure maintenance of environment standards by private and public organisations working in the province to determine the quality of potable water.
The committee would draw samples of water being supplied to people by the civic bodies. It will also visit places from where people draw water and carry it to their houses.
These may be public hydrant or wells. This committee would arrange testing at designated laboratories.
The committee would also take samples of air from various areas of the province for laboratory tests to find out the ratio of impurities.
The committee would recommend legal action against an organisation/institution in case its failure to follow environmental standards is established. The committee would submit its findings to the adviser.
The adviser to chief minister , Noman Saigol, would head the committee on environment and alternative energy.
To finalise the formation of the committee a meeting was held in the office of the adviser. Among others, Secretary Environment and Alternative Energy Shamsul Haque Memon, Director General Shafique Ahmed Khoso and Deputy Secretary Dr Iqbal Saeed were present.
