Over 40 Pakistanis, with illegal travel documents, managed to board PIA flights to the UK in one calendar month from Islamabad alone, inspite of the army monitoring teams stationed there.
Whoever is responsible, be it the Interior Ministry or the office of the Punjab chief minister, the government is directly accountable, for this lapse.
Such news causes embarrassment to those expatriate Pakistanis, who desire to not only maintain their links with their motherland, but also try to maintain a balance with their adopted country, that has given them freedom and dignity.
People like Sir Pervaiz, Amir Khan (Olympic Boxer), belonging to the lower income groups, were forced to migrate to Europe in search of economic security. They got an opportunity, which was denied to them in Pakistan, where there is no role for merit or hardwork or honesty
Pakistan's establishment is dominated by a corrupt mafia, which seeks to plunder its real estate and meagre resources, then transfer all this ill-gotten wealth to foreign bank accounts, where they desire to settle.
On the other hand, there exists this group of expatriate Pakistanis, who seek to invest in the country, to which their parents and grandparents belong. Most of them come from lower middle class backgrounds, or very poor families, and have excelled not only in business, but also in academics and sports.
It is this group which sends their hard-earned savings, that account for the rise in foreign exchange reserves of Pakistan.
We only hope that there is a change for good and democracy, and that the rule of law, an independent judiciary, a powerful parliament etc prevails, which will only secure our hard-earned investments.
It is time jobs are given to those who excel in academics, instead of reserved quotas for men in uniform.
The cream of Pakistan's intelligentsia come from its universities and colleges, while the able bodied go to uniformed services.
Pakistan needs to exploit its abundant human resources, by investment in education and health.
Provision of homes for lower income groups must be subsidised by the state, instead of these islands of prosperity like the DHA, where the cost of land alone has been manipulated and escalated beyond the reach of middle class, that has become an endangered species.
