The government would take all possible steps to bring Northern Areas at par with other parts of the country economically, politically and socially, said Senator Nisar Memon here on Thursday.
Speaking at a news conference, he said that Pakistan Muslim League (PML) had nominated its candidates on 22 constituencies out of the total of 24 for Northern Areas Legislative Council's forthcoming elections.
Nisar, who is also the chief organiser of PML for Northern Areas, said that the party has been reorganised in the area and would succeed in most of the constituencies.
Memon said that PML government had carried out many development projects in the area on the special directives of President Musharraf. He added that the present government would continue to work for the welfare of the people of the area in the future.
The Senator said that the PML government is giving priority to the development of Northern Areas, adding that it would take all steps to preserve the beauty of geographically, strategically and politically important region.
He said the government was working on a five-point agenda of eradication of sectarianism, elimination of unemployment, promotion of health and education, highlighting of women's rights and improvement of communication system in the area.
The Senator said that due to the pragmatic policies of PML and President Musharraf, many prominent politicians had joined the party.
He said the government had acquired land for the purpose of launching a mega health project in the area, for providing latest healthcare facilities in the area.
To improve the judicial system in the area, the government was considering upgrading the chief court to the appellate court, he added.
The PML chief organiser said that the government was also working on a comprehensive plan to upgrade the communication links connecting the northern areas with other parts of the country.
