Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy Dr Hamida Khuhro has said that the financial institutions including banks play vital role in socio-economic development of country.
Addressing Training Programme of Commerce Teachers, Professors arranged by Institute of Bankers Pakistan (IBP) here on Thursday, Dr Hamida Khuhro added that the excellent education is required in the field of commerce.
She further said that the country urgently required cadres of men and women who could face the modern challenges and solve the day to day problems of individuals, institutions and organisations.
The banks, financial institutions, colleges, universities, other service oriented organisations are undergoing revolutionary changes and would contribute to this revolution.
Minister said that the rapidly transforming scenario places high demands on the competing forces to develop professionalism and adopt innovative approaches to progress and in this regard the education and training are required as top priority in our plans for growth and the development of teachers, bankers and other experts.
Dr Khuhro said that banks occupy a central position in the economic development of the country, which provide strength and vigour to the economic system and their ability to diversify into new financially oriented areas is the key to the maintenance of their role as the pillars of the national economy the bankers and teachers both are the pillars that lend strength and support to the nation and they carry a high responsibility to equip students with latest knowledge and prepare them as future leaders who would contribute to the nations strength both academically and economically.
The minister said that the present government is committed to improve the system through reforms and corrective action in the socio-economic culture and the governance of the country and some positive results are visible because despite the adverse effect of 9/11 event.
In recent years she said that fiscal deficit has been brought down, debts have been reduced, dept-GDP ratio has improved and the current account deficit has been curtailed due to the government is focusing and enhancing GDP growth as well as giving attention to reducing poverty and giving some relief to the people. She hoped that the country will achieve over 6 percent GDP growth in the next 2 to 3 years.
She congratulated IBP on its great role to technical strengthen financial institutions and hoped that it will serve country for economical power.
Earlier the Executive Secretary IBP Salem Umar and Rahat Javed also spoke on the occasion.
