Recognising the efforts of Anti-narcotics Force (ANF) of Pakistan in elimination of drug trafficking, the Governor General Director of the Turkish National Police Gokhan Aydiner has said those efforts were praise worthy and a great service to entire world.
He expressed these views after having a detailed briefing about the working of ANF here at ANF headquarters on Thursday.
The high ranking delegation of Turkey was accorded a warm welcome and reception by Director General of the ANF Major General Nadeem Ahmed and other senior officials of the force.
The delegation met with the ANF officials and held a separate meeting with Director General ANF.
Brigadier Sikandar Ali briefed the Turkish delegation about various facets of the working of ANF.
Speaking on the occasion, Turkish National Police chief Gokhan Aydiner lauded the role of ANF for dedicated efforts put in by its ranks and file.
He stressed the need for further extension of already existing mutually beneficial ties between Pakistan and Turkey.
"Drug trafficking is a matter of common interest for the international community and should be dealt with concerted efforts of all the affected", he said adding that Turkey and Pakistan had a special relationship and their brotherly ties should be further strengthened.
A display was arranged on the occasion showing various concealment methods and techniques adopted by the smugglers to smuggle narcotics within and outside the country.
On the occasion Brigadier Sikandar, Director ANF Headquarters briefed the delegation that the role of ANF was supervisory, co-ordinating and acts as an advisory body in the field of narcotics.
He further informed the delegation that in 2003 and 2004 the total area under poppy cultivation was 6694 hectare out of which 78 percent had been eradicated. From January 1, 2004 to 6 September 5739 kilogram of heroin, 469 kilogram of opium and 49730 kilogram of Hashish had been captured by ANF, he said adding that the total assets frozen were worth Rs 5319.03 million and the value of frozen assets forfeited was worth Rs 585.55 million.
A total of 442 cases had been registered against drug traffickers and a number of arrests were made.
