Sindh Minister for Revenue and Political Affairs Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh as secretary general of Pakistan Muslim League has taken notice of demolition of old/settled villages in Karachi. He expressed anger over the indiscriminate action against many lawful occupants of land.
In a letter issued on Wednesday, he has directed DCO Mir Hussain Ali to stop demolition of old villages in Karachi.
The minister has intimated DCO Karachi that numerous complaints in the shape of delegations from various villages and written requests from certain village associations are being received by him.
The letter said that complaints of highhandedness and forcible eviction of people and demolition of construction from these established villages were rampant.
The minister in his letter has asked the city administration to stop forthwith all illegal demolition of old/settled-authorised villages and wait for such policies that determined actions in such areas.
The letter further said that the poor people/residents of the villages are being made homeless which causes resentment among the public.
The minister said: "The existing policy of the government is to facilitate the masses to alleviate their sufferings to the maximum possible extent and to provide them justice at their doorsteps.
As such, these kinds of activities of administration run counter to the policy of the government, thus, need to be stopped forthwith." The minister has directed the DCO that keeping in view the illegal demolition of villages should come to a halt.
He said that the matter should be investigated as to how the demolition of established villages could begin. The actual situation should be ascertained and a report should be submitted to him.
The minister said: "A meeting of all the concerned officers of the relevant departments may be arranged in my office in the next week to deliberate on the issues pertaining to demolition of villages."
